Frequently Asked Questions

Get to know the Prosper DPC practice even more

  • What is Prosper Direct Primary Care and What is Integrative Medicine
Prosper Direct Primary Care is a membership-based practice that aims to provide consistent, high-quality primary and integrative medicine services. Integrative medicine is a patient-centered approach to healthcare that combines conventional and alternative therapies to address the physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and environmental factors that affect a person's health. Our members are top priority and are offered personalized and accessible care. By offering options such as direct access to your doctor and next-day visits, members have time to address their concerns in a relaxed setting.
  • How is Prosper Direct Primary Care different?
Prosper Direct Primary Care uses an innovative alternative model called direct primary care. A direct care practice removes insurance companies from the equation, eliminating copays, deductibles, and claim submission requirements. Unlike a traditional primary care practice, we do not rely on insurance reimbursement for sustainability, which allows us to do what we do best - practice medicine. Your visits will never feel rushed, and new members are scheduled for 60 minutes to allow us to get to know them and their healthcare goals. You will also know exactly how much your healthcare will cost with no surprises. As the practice is limited to just a few hundred members and not thousands, you will be able to contact Dr.Kolawole when you need advice and be able to schedule an appointment quickly if needed.
  • What if I need Labs or Imaging
Arrangements will be made for you to get your labs at a facility of your choice. If you have Your choice of insurance still covers insurance and lab tests such as pap smears and mammograms, which can be billed to them. If you do not have insurance, the cost of other labs will be charged before collection. Dr. Kolawole has negotiated for lower-than-cash pricing for labs and will pay the lab directly. Lab charges will be added and applied to your preferred membership payment method. Dr. Kolawole has negotiated on your behalf with imaging centers for the best self-pay prices and will confirm before scheduling. Charges for imaging will be required upfront with the imaging center.
  • Will you be offering in-person appointments?
Yes, we currently offer in-office visits by appointment only to accommodate next-day availability for urgent visits.
  • What happens if I need to go to the hospital or see a specialist?
In instances where those types of care are required, we will work with your hospitalist during your hospital stay as well as work closely with any specialist when such care is needed. In some cases, depending on the level of care and the expertise required, we may rely on those specialized caregivers to manage your treatment. We do encourage you to carry insurance for these kinds of needs, as we are not an insurance plan.
  • What if I need medical attention when I am away from home?
Many illnesses can be diagnosed and treated with a simple conversation by phone, email, text, or telemedicine (virtual visit). As a result of the nature of our practice, you are able to speak with Dr. Kolawole wherever you are or easily schedule a virtual visit. If you have a condition that requires in-person evaluation and treatment, Dr. Kolawole will direct you to appropriate nearby care, and coordinate follow-up when you return home.
  • Will I benefit from Prosper Direct Primary Care if I don't require frequent medical attention?
Yes! Unfortunately, most medical care has become very reactionary, something we use only as a reaction to having symptoms or being sick. While we always provide sick care for our patients, it is also important to be proactive and create plans for staying healthy. Certainly, everyone benefits from healthcare tailored to them. The traditional healthcare model encourages you NOT to seek care until you are very sick due to its complex and rushed nature. With Prosper Direct Primary Care, you can seek care at any time, preferably sooner rather than later, and we can actually prevent sickness from happening instead of waiting for things to get bad enough before coming in. We treat patients when they need to be treated, not several weeks or months from now.
  • Does Prosper Direct Primary Care accept commercial Insurance?
No, we do not participate in insurance plans to pay membership fees. The direct membership model means no co-pays or deductibles, no hassles and no hidden charges. If you have private insurance, you may be able to get out of network reimbursement for your visits.
  • Can I still be seen if I have insurance?
Of course! You can see Dr. Kolawole if you have insurance; we will not bill your insurance for any visits. You will pay us directly monthly. Dr. Kolawole is considered a non-participating provider with ordering and referral status. She may order labs, tests, and referrals through your insurance (excluding HMO insurance plans). Remember that Prosper Direct Primary Care has negotiated pricing lower than cash pay prices and usually less than insurance copays.
  • As a member of Prosper DPC, do I still need insurance?
Yes as we do not replace your existing health insurance. There are certain types of care we cannot provide for you, such as surgeries and hospital stays, and you would still need insurance to cover these emergency situations. We suggest that members continue or opt to carry either a high deductible health plan (insurance) and a health savings account (HSA), or a nonprofit medical cost sharing plan to ensure financial help should hospitalization or referral to a specialist be necessary.
  • Can I use my HSA or FSA to pay for membership?
If you have an HSA or Flex Spending Account (FSA) , you can use these funds to help pay for your annual membership. Consult your tax advisor or HR department for guidance on your particular circumstances.
  • How much does the monthly membership cost?
We keep our membership fees simple. Each adult member pays $99/1099 for primary care, $199/2299 for integrative care only, and $249/2799 for a combination of primary and integrative care.
  • Is there a fee for signing up to join?
We offer a free 30-minute meet and greet to help answer any questions you have about the model and to introduce you to the team. There is no commitment, and the meeting can be virtual or in person. To accommodate a thorough 60-minute exam and review of previous records (usually another 30-60 minutes), we charge a one-time enrollment fee. So, $99 for all three levels with a minimum of 3 month commitment.
  • What if I decide to cancel my membership?
Direct Primary Care is at its best when there is a long-term relationship between the doctor, the medical team, and the patient. However, we understand this is a new model and it might not be for everyone. You can cancel at anytime. We do not allow members to leave and rejoin when they get sick as that would be unfair to paying members. If you are going through financial hardship we can try and work with you, and rejoining Prosper DPC is at the discretion of the doctor.
  • How do I become a member?
At this time, we are open for enrollment, which you may access on our membership page or by clicking the “Become a Member” tab above. After you have pre-enrolled, Dr. Kolawole will contact you to schedule a virtual or in-person meeting to get acquainted and review your medical history and needs. Together, we can determine if our services and approach meet your needs and expectations. Please remember that space is limited to 600 patients so we can devote the highest standard of personalized care and service to each member. We accept members on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the enrollment limit is reached, we will establish a waiting list, so we encourage you to act quickly.
